Blue Butterfly is part of a series of reduction linocut prints referencing the ancient Roman mythological goddess Pomona, the goddess of orchards and gardens. In this print Pomona is the gatekeeper of the fig orchard and her job is to protect the figs from interlopers. The blue butterfly looms largely as a threat to her precious fig harvest.
