Holobiont I and II (diptych) 2020
acrylic & oil on timber panel
50 x 40 cm each
In attempting to cross-pollinate geometric abstraction with biomorphic forms the work speculates on the nature culture divide, organism and individuals, our incorporation and entanglement with other organisms, care and affection. I seek to extend and transform the geometric with layered, material and sensory dimensions. The bodily forms become a place where we project ideas and imaginings about ourselves - a place of vulnerability and exchange. I am interested in how the illusion of space on a two-dimensional surface pushes up against real space allowing for something indeterminate, modular, poetic, haptic, and unsteady. Painting is a way for me to reconfigure the possible and to open up new worlds to be imagined.
